About Us

Embedded systems are built by two kinds of engineers who rarely speak the same language. Software developers write the application. Hardware designers decide what runs on the processor, what moves to the FPGA, and how the pieces communicate. Traditionally, those decisions are locked in early, on paper, and only truly tested once real hardware exists, which is exactly when mistakes are most expensive to fix.

Researchers in the Microelectronics and Microsystems Group (GRM2) at Polytechnique Montréal set out to change that. Their idea was simple to state and hard to build: let designers start from the code they already have, create an executable model of the entire system, and try out different hardware/software partitions in simulation before committing to any of them.

That research became SpaceStudio. In 2008, Guy Bois founded Space Codesign Systems to take it out of the lab and put it in the hands of industry.

Meet the team

Guy Bois
Founder & VP Business Development | Eng., Ph.D. in Computer Science, Université de Montréal

Guy Bois served as a consultant to other industry leaders such as STMicroelectronics and Cadabra Systems (acquired by Synopsys). Guy’s expertise led to the commercialization of the solution and the inception of Space Codesign Systems Inc.

Hubert Guerard
CEO & CTO | M.Sc.A. in Computer Engineering, Polytechnique Montréal

Hubert is the chief architect of SpaceStudio and leads its development. An embedded systems specialist, he has worked on integrating network-on-chip models into system-level design flows and on joint hardware/software synthesis, the very technologies at the heart of the product.

Jacques Baillairge
VP Sales, America | B. Sc. Eng

After 7 years as a design engineer for CMC Electronics, Jacques Baillairgé transitioned to a career in Electronic Design Automation in various engineering, sales and consulting positions for over 30 years in North America.
Jacques strong background in sales coupled with technical expertise is an asset to find creative technical solutions to business challenges.
